Summer 2026 Week 23 Newsletter
Howdy Folks,
This is the 2nd to last week for the summer season for weekly members. For folks that have a bi-weekly share, this is your last week of summer shares.
If you feel like you are going to miss your Who Cooks CSA Subscription, we still have some fall shares, so please sign up. Note we do not all have the same locations for fall as we do summer, so please double check our location here. We do have a new location in Millvale, if this interests you it will be located at the Millvale Market.
All last week we have had freezing temperatures! So we jumped from not even a frost to a freeze! It’s been a week of starry nights bringing us cold mornings and frost kissed greens!
Our greenhouse got the plastic replaced and next year's potting soil got delivered from our one and only favorite company, Vermont Compost! We have been extremely happy with their potting soil. It’s just a perfect cradle for our seeds to be nourished into seedlings. We jump on their early sale bulk discount. We thought of you all as we needed to order an entire semi load in order to get the discount, so we will have bags to sell in spring for you to add to your pots for the coming growing season.
The ticks are crawling out again with the weather cooling and the moisture coming back. Yikes! Limes disease has become a major cost of doing business as a farmer. Whenever we enter tall grass or go near the woods we know we’ve got to be on the lookout. Our dogs are also big time hosts that bring them into our house. So once it is tick season we are always weary.
As always, have a great week.
Your Farmers,
Chris, Aeros and The Who Crew
The greenhouse got skinned. That's what we call it. We tried something new this time, we left the old plastic on in order to make it easier to pull the new plastic over the bows, then we took off the old plastic. The wind must be calm in this event. It's a huge, 100' x 60' sail, nothing to mess around with. At the end of the day, the thing that hurts most on the body are your fingers from pulling.
The plastic coverings last at most 7 years and then they don't let enough light in and they also become brittle. It's not a great thing, but we do find other uses for it, like last summer we made a huge slip and slide for the boys birthday party. Old rolls have covered big cement pours to keep it a little warm when it’s a little too cold to be pouring cement.
Forest Bathing is highly recommended! If you have yet to hear about what this concept is, I encourage you to do a little research! It's fascinating how healing it is to be among the trees, the lungs of our planet.
