Fall CSA Newsletter: November 19, 2024 (Week 2)
Hi Folks,
Our crew is whittling down as fall progresses. Our four new Guatemalan guys went home the last week of October, and Natalie has sadly moved on to a new job; although we are lucky to still have her one day a week to help get ready for each weeks CSA pack. I knew I wasn’t going to find the right person for the job with the season ending in 6 weeks, so your back to good ol’ Aeros as your customer support. I’m bound and determined to not let you down. Although there may be a little longer turn around time on my replies than Natalie. We will miss her, she was perfect, but her passion is not customer service, it’s stream restoration, so she will be joining a local AmeriCorps program that is focused on stream restoration. Passion and work are very important, so we are supportive of this change.
Our Mexican crew includes; Yoyo, Marco, Oso, Leko, and Cobra (these guys will be heading home Thanksgiving day! Then for the remainder of the season we will have Andres and Klinton.
Over the years we have learned the hard way to get as many roots out of the ground before the bitter cold. It’s just no fun to work in the cold temperatures with cold wind as well as cold precipitation. Yesterday was our first day working in these temps and the guys said “Wow, very cold!”
It’s been a pretty mild Autumn so far, so we welcome in some more seasonal weather. It feels right for it to be grey, cool and foggy. We have little over one more month of Autumn until it’s officially winter. These days that aren’t too cool and giving us precipitation are helping all of the cover crops to continue to grow. The fields are looking good, many are a brilliant green that is a little unusual for this time of year. If you get a head of lettuce with a sprouted grain inside (this is covercrop seed that didn’t hit the ground and germinate instead it got inside a head of lettuce, I think of these sprouted seeds as good omens. You can take these seeds out to your yard press them into the soil and watch them grow.
Have a great week!
Cheers,
Chris, Aeros & The Who Crew
