Happy Earth Day and Happy 2025 Spring CSA Season!  Now finally after the long winter, fresh, organic, local food is at your fingertips. The soil of the Earth is still cool, so all of the items in your share this week except the garlic scallions are coming out of the ground in our hightunnels.  In these tunnels when the sun is shining it can get up to 100º, so we vent them to keep them around 60º.  We build another high tunnel this spring, so this has made this spring a madder dash than most.  It’s a huge feat to build a 500’ x 32’ tunnel in 7 days, racing time and the weather, with tons of pushing and pulling, and it happened.  We definitely did not do it alone!  We hire a professional Amish team from eastern PA, that we have worked with to help us build all three of our 500’ tunnels.  So we had a total of 8 men crafting this beauty for 7 days. Chris fertilized and prepped the beds last night to plant out our grafted tomatoes into this new tunnel and in ground that hasn’t had tomatoes in it before!  It's always exciting to get plants into dirt where they have not been before!  It’s a healthy fresh start!

IN YOUR BOX:

The fare in your boxes this week is a big push for this time of year!  Everything is beginning to get a lot bigger with the warmth of last week, thankfully!  Chris and I were a little worried things weren’t going to size up in time, for the first week’s boxes, but this is the beginning and in beginning things are a little smaller.

PICKING UP OF YOUR SHARES:

When you arrive at your pick up site, please look for a box with your name on it.  Please unpack this box and take the contents home.  You are not to take home this box! This box is for farm to pick up site transportation only!  Please do not take this box home with you.  HERE IS A LINK TO A FACEBOOKS PAGE VIDEO SHOWING YOU HOW TO OPEN THIS BOX. On your label you will see all that you should be picking up today.  Please note, that none of the optional shares are inside of this box.  These optional shares include, Eggs, Cheese, Mushrooms, and Coffee. These shares are located in the blue coolers.  Please reference your box label to make sure you get the correct optional shares that you paid for.  If you don’t see a share that you think you should be getting, please don’t take it, please instead be in touch with the farm. 814-221-7177.

PLANT SALE:

Maybe you know about it, and maybe you don’t.  We have an annual online market spring plant sale.  We offer many varieties of veggies that we grow and know to perform well in western pa!  If you have a veggie garden or are thinking of starting one, or you just have a patio with pots or even a windowsill.  We try to have a little something for everyone.  It’s a wonderful thing to grow food.  We welcome you to put in an order.  We will be shipping out all orders placed before April 30, the following week to our Spring CSA pick up locations!  Some folks aren’t our CSA members anymore, because they got hooked on growing their own vegetables, by starting with our healthy organic seedlings.  The nurturing of a seed and how it evolves is very important!  The seedlings that we offer are grown in the world renown “Vermont Compost” potting mix, like all of the vegetables we grow on the farm.  We do get this shipped from VT, because it’s the best, and no one else makes potting soil like Vermont Compost, anywhere in PA.

Cheers to the first shares of the season!  May the small bounty of this week’s share fill you with the essence of fresh spring simplicity and nourishment.  Note that the shares will be more bountiful as the soil warms!  Thank you for your support, we are so happy that you have joined us to taste the season's bounty.

Your Farmers,

Chris, Aeros & The Who Crew
