Week 2 is never as nerve wracking as week 1!  I’m sorry you all received a very oops! Goofy Sneak Peak late last night!  It’s been a wild week of working out the error codes, and late night focused push throughs, and we have almost every farm truck in the shop except one.  We have 4, if you count our buggy, this is basically a fourwheeler with a roof.  This is a very easy alterain vehicle to get in and out quickly on the farm.  Sometimes it feels like everything is broken, yet it’s all fixable, you just have to take the time to fix it, have someone help you from the crew, or outsource!

I doubt you all are sick of carrots!  Well I can tell you that our family is sick of eating carrots.  This is a big staple food for us throughout the winter!  Our boys and ourselves have had carrots in their lunches for the past 5 months.  Then on top of that we have them roasted for dinner, or snuck into pancakes or soups and stews!  I had a lady tell me that she pickled hers!  There’s an idea that I haven’t tried!  I think my boys would appreciate this suggestion!  So here’s a link to pickled carrots!

IN YOUR BOX:

The kale is leafy alright.  These spring bunches are some of the most beautiful and delicious that we taste all year!  Everything is very fresh and springy other than the carrots which are last seasons fall crop.  These are a great storage carrot variety called Bolero!  They are infamous among carrot farmers!  They have a large core, and as the saying goes, “ the larger the core, the better they store!”

Add on Share Varieties:

Mushrooms: Outdoor log grown Shitake or Beech Mushrooms

Cheese:  Pleasant Lane Farms of Latobe, PA.  1976 Signature Gouda

PLANT SALE:

Maybe you know about it, and maybe you don’t.  We have an annual online market spring plant sale.  We offer many varieties of veggies that we grow and know to perform well in western pa!  If you have a veggie garden or are thinking of starting one, or you just have a patio with pots or even a windowsill.  We try to have a little something for everyone.  It’s a wonderful thing to grow food.  We welcome you to put in an order.  We will be shipping out all orders placed before April 30, the following week to our Spring CSA pick up locations!  Some folks aren’t our CSA members anymore, because they got hooked on growing their own vegetables, by starting with our healthy organic seedlings.  The nurturing of a seed and how it evolves is very important!  The seedlings that we offer are grown in the world renown “Vermont Compost” potting mix, like all of the vegetables we grow on the farm.  We do get this shipped from VT, because it’s the best, and no one else makes potting soil like Vermont Compost, anywhere in PA.  Although we just talked with some founders of Soil Sauce a company that is making bio-digesters.  So maybe we will be making compost in the future!
