Spring 2026 Week 3 Newsletter
The produce is looking good in the fields. Before we know it we will have Broccolini. The peas are beginning to climb their trellis, and we aren’t expecting any hot temperatures, so our cool loving crops might just be super happy for a bit.
Every day feels like a triumph. There is so much happening. Pulling orders for plant sales, packing CSA boxes, preparing for farmers markets, and planting out transplants, and seeding more successions. Meanwhile we are keeping up with our building project of extending our packhouse, storage and curing facilities.
Andres, an employee who has been with us for many years now, started singing this on the way to market the other day. It’s a lovely little rhyme, he said it’s a song he sings to his son.. “Solcito, solcito calientame un poquito porque hace frio.” , in English this translates to, “Little sun, little sun, warm me up a little bit, because it’s cold.” It’s such a sweet request. One that we all feel more and more as the spring days lengthen and the light returns and our weather slowly warms up.
Note: If you ever want more food in your box, You can add on to your order! Simply click on this link for a tutorial on how to add items to your order. Your Farmers,
Chris, Aeros and the Who Crew
Chris is about to mow, and send thousands of dandelion seeds into the air.
Federico is seeding here with a vacuum seeder. This device saves us tons of time! It has plates with holes in them of different sizes to accommodate different seeds sizes and numbers of cells in a tray. He pours a lot of seeds onto the tray and moves the tray back and forth, moving the seeds over the holes they stick to the the hole via the vacuum. After all the holes are covered with seeds, he taps the side of the tray to loosen groups of seeds and narrows it down to the majority of holes being covered by one seed. Then dumps off all the loose seed, flips the tray upside down on top of a flat of cells full of potting mix and releases the vacuum tube, dropping the seed onto the soil medium. Voila, the entire, flat of anywhere from 72 - 500 seeds planted in a seedling flat. We bought our first vacuum seeder in 2017, and we wondered why we hadn't gotten one earlier. It's definitely helped us to scale our business. All the flats to Federico's left were seeded today. His seeding list was, Amaranth and Beets, both red and gold.
