Summer CSA Newsletter: November 5, 2024 (Week 24)
Hi Folks,
We did our final harvest of sweet peppers in this super mild November weather and wowsers! Did we harvest a bunch! A mild November, like this one, really opens the door to continued harvests of fresh vegetables with nice greens. We're still harvesting bok choy, turnips with greens, beets with greens, beautiful bunches of kales, collards and swiss chard. This is unusual, for sure.
I mean, typical chilly November nights can easily reach the teens which beets (ha!) up anything that's sticking its head above ground....so carrots are safe...
This is why we grow so much produce in early spring and late fall in high tunnels. It's relatively safe in the tunnels from the deep cold snaps that damage and kill plants.
Anyways, half of our crew has retired for the season and are enjoying their family time. Which means we have half a crew to get a lot of beautiful produce to market this weekend.
So, it's back to work!
Can't wait to see everyone this weekend!
Cheers,
Chris, Aeros & The Who Crew
If you look closely, you'll see steam coming off the compost pile! This compost was recently turned. In the process of decomposition, the material becomes hot, with ideal temps between 90F - 140F. So when the pile is turned, that heat escapes into the cool morning air.
